Why did we decide to start a new website for our subscription service and why a subscription service?

Simple really we wanted to start with a fresh look and feel, and there were some practical reasons and limitations on The Coffee Pod site.

Why start a subscription it just seemed the sensible thing to do. More and more regular customers have been asking us for some time now. It's easy to manage your subscription online or call us, we are always happy to chat through things.

Our main site and focus will continue to be The Coffee Pod.

So our story

Where did it all start?

For one of us fitting out British Rail carriages! Then somehow going into the world of fashion and travel luggage via plumbing, ending up in the retail world.

One of our shops had a small area at the back, which could we could have used as retails space but we rather liked the idea of selling sandwiches and coffee, and before we knew what was what, we'd realized we had become really passionate about coffee.

All this was the days before the internet had really taken off, we knew we wanted to go "online" and sell. So we started with luggage but to be honest, it was not that successful.  Heading down to the local post office with a few sales of rather large suitcases really wasn't that much fun!

Sometimes you just cannot see the wood for the trees and there in front of us was a smaller product, which we were really passionate about, it was just all too obvious!

We started with ground coffee and ESE coffee pods and then

one thing lead to another and we expanded our range to include coffee capsules, beans, different grinds, etc.

At first, we worked closely with other roasters to produce the kind of roasts we wanted. Then the lease on our shop came to an end we could have renewed but we took "the leap" and threw ourselves full time into the now ever growing coffee business.

It was inevitable roasting for ourselves was the route we would take, as you can see from the picture we purchased a roaster, which we still use today. Went on a roasting course or two, lots of trials and errors and here we are.

But having a roaster on its own is not much use, so we have all sorts of packing machines, sorters (you know you need to sort through the green beans and remove any stones), grinders, compressors, and more. But we can proudly say from the green bean to you without leaving our roasting and packing house.

Are will still an artisan roasting company?

For sure yes, we pride ourselves on that, and we like it that way. Because we're small we can offer a wide and varied variety of roasts, small batches of each roast packed into individual pods or capsules. One thing we've found over the years some roasts suit some pods and not others, there's actually quite a bit of technical stuff to do with grinds and the like so some roasts just don't suit certain pods.

Our story is really no different from many other bespoke businesses, hard work and late nights, and still wanting that feeling you get when you connect with customers.  Just we did in our brick and mortar retail days.  That's why we also say please call us we're happy to chat.
